JAMMU: The Special Crime Wing (SCW), Crime Branch, Jammu on Thursday registered against a revenue official and others on the basis of a written complaint alleging their involvement in land deal cheating.
Sharing details of the case, SSP SCW Jammu Sanjay Parihar informed that the complainant alleged that one Suraj Parkash, son of Nand Lal, resident of Talab Tillo, Jammu, who was posted as Patwari, Halqa Chatta, approached him in the year 2004 for the sale of a piece of land measuring 10 Kanals situated at Village Chatta, Tehsil and District Jammu.
He alleged that the accused showed the land at the site and later produced certain documents claiming ownership. Believing the representations made by him, the complainant agreed to purchase the land at the rate of Rs. 45,000 per Kanal and paid an amount of Rs. 4,50,000 to the accused.
However, after a lapse of two to three months, the accused failed to hand over valid revenue documents or possession of the land. Despite repeated approaches by the complainant, the accused allegedly adopted dilly-dallying tactics and kept on delaying the matter. “Subsequently, the accused misled the complainant by stating that the entire land of Chatta, including the complainant’s land, was being acquired by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu, and that higher compensation at the rate of Rs. 75,000 per Kanal would be paid. On verification at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Jammu, the complainant found that his name did not figure in the list of beneficiaries,” Sanjay Parihar said.
Later, the accused allegedly issued two cheques towards repayment, which were dishonoured due to insufficient funds.
During Preliminary Verification, it was found that the accused has caused wrongful loss to the complainant and wrongful gain to himself.
The acts of omission and commission on the part of the accused prima facie disclosed the commission of an offence punishable under Section 420 RPC.
Accordingly, a formal case has been registered at Police Station Special Crime Wing, Crime Branch, Jammu, against the alleged accused, Sanjay Parihar said adding that the investigation of the case has been entrusted to Dy. SP Deepak Jasrotia, Investigating Officer, SCW Crime Branch, Jammu and further investigation is in progress.
