CB registered 58 FIRs in 2014; DNA, Cyber labs sanctioned: DGP

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch (CB) has registered 58 FIRs to investigate various crimes across the State in 2014, said Director General of Police K. Rajendra Kumar on Tuesday.
Of 1,678 complaints, 1,550 were disposed off, he said in his New Year message to all ranks of the force.
He said the Crime Branch wing, which forms core of policing, has been given due focus during the year. Latest methods have been introduced to carry out investigations effectively.
Spelling out various initiatives to improve the working of the police force, the DGP said that after constant follow up, the J&K Police has got approval from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for a unique ID for SMS based application, making JKP one of the few police forces in the country to get this service activated. “Upgradation of NETRA (IMS) has added immensely to our capabilities to monitor internet, social apps (GPRS), which is an invaluable tool”, he said.
Referring to the horrendous floods, the DGP said a large number of Police vehicles were submerged during floods and tireless efforts were made by the technical staff to retrieve these. More than 500 vehicles were repaired, providing quick mobility to the force for serving the population. Establishment of one cyber forensic lab and DNA lab would give an impetus to policing for which sanction has been got from the government, added the DGP’s message.
He said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), besides its other multi-dimensional duties, has conducted 96,000 verifications, during 2014.In addition, the Forensic Science Laboratories, received more than 3,700 cases from different investigating agencies for examination, of which 3,000 cases stands disposed off. To upgrade the laboratories and improve their performance new divisions including DNA profiling and computer voice identification and video authentication technology have been put in place, he said, adding that CCTNS implementation is in progress and site preparation at 239 locations has been completed. ” In all, 22,082 cases have been digitized and hardware delivered at 158 locations, besides 13,195 personnel imparted basic computer training, he said adding that Crime Wing also functions as nodal agency in different subjects and the figures in these subjects have almost been updated which include NDPS, anti-human trafficking, fake Indian currency, economic offences and organized crimes. He said the Telecommunication Wing has prepared specification and features of Dial 100 system, Centralized Monitoring System (CMS), Transparent Recruitment Policy and Local Area Networking (LAN) proposal for PHQ Srinagar which facilitated to process tenders.
During the year, long pending issues of the police personnel like pay anomaly and enhancement in Ration Money Allowance (RMA) were pursued with the State Government constantly and finally got settled, Rajendra said adding that other issues like enhancement in reservation in professional courses, promotion avenues for officers and men will remain his priorities in 2015.
