DoB tampering to seek admission in MBBS

JAMMU: The Crime Branch wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday simultaneously raided the residence and office of the Principal, Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, Dr. Shashi Sudan Sharma in connection with tampering in her Date of Birth (DoB) certificate.
The GMC Principal was present in the office when the raid took place. The Crime Branch team led by senior officers including the Investigation Office DySP Baghwan Dass Dandia conducted searches at both the places.
The Crime Branch had already registered an FIR against the Principal after conducting preliminary verification into the allegations of DoB tampering.
In a written complaint, it was alleged that in the year 1981 Dr. Shashi Sudan had tampered her Date of Birth to get admission in MBBS at GMC Jammu. As her Date of Birth is April 8, 1965 and in the year 1981 she was not eligible to take admission for MBBS course, she tampered her DoB certificate.
According to the rules of the Medical Council of India, a student must be at least 17-year-old in the year of admission to MBBS course. In terms of her age, Dr. Shashi was only 16 years and eight months old till December 31, 1981. And, to seek admission in same year, her DoB was tampered as April 8, 1964.
After the complaint was registered, an investigation was conducted and it was found that Dr. Shashi Sudan was in possession of two Date of Birth (DoB) certificates. April 8, 1964 is written on one and April 8, 1965 on the other.
While taking admission in MBBS course, she gave her Class 10 diploma in which her Date of Birth was written as April 8, 1964. And, later in-service she registered her DoB as April 8, 1965. After registering of FIR, the crime branch has started investigating the matter in detail.
Crime Branch teams together reached Dr. Shashi Sudan’s residence in Bakshi Nagar and office at Government Medical College Jammu at around 10 o’clock on Thursday morning. The CB sleuths have taken some documents in possession for scrutiny. The CB has not so far issued any statement on the recoveries made during the raids.
