court order judgementNew Delhi:- The Delhi High Court has sought CBI’s response on a property dealer’s plea seeking a direction for a probe and a charge sheet in a case in which traffic police personnel were filmed for taking “bribes” from Blueline bus operators in 2007.

A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw also asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to inform it about the stage of the probe on petitioner Chetan Prakash Sharma’s plea alleging that he has not heard of any “investigation or progress either from CBI or Delhi Police in the FIR registered” in April 2008.

The counsel appearing for CBI has sought time to get instructions “as to the stage of investigation of an FIR” registered at Police Station Janak Puri (in West Delhi) under Section 7/13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, it said.

Sharma has sought a direction to CBI and Delhi Police to file the status report of the probe made in pursuance of the FIR lodged on the order given by the high court in January 2008.

The petitioner’s counsel Anil K Aggarwal, through a plea for revival of the matter, sought a direction to produce the action taken report.

The sting operation was conducted in 2007 by Sharma at 30 different points in the national capital and over 100 traffic police personnel were caught on camera allegedly accepting bribes from Blueline bus operators.

An inquiry was initiated against the officials found on camera allegedly accepting bribes.

The operation was conducted in October, November and December 2007 with the help of some Blueline operators who were being “harassed” by the traffic police, the plea said.

The matter was brought to the notice of the high court through a public interest litigation (PIL) in January 2008 and copies of the tapes were forwarded to the Union Home Ministry, Delhi Police Commissioner and Central Vigilance Commission to verify their authenticity and take proper action.
