SRINAGAR: The PDP-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday formed a cabinet sub-committee to look into the new recruitment policy announced by the government and submit its recommendations before June 1 this year.
“The cabinet formed a sub-committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh to look into the recruitment policy announced by the government earlier,” Education Minister Naeem Akhtar told reporters after the cabinet meeting here.
The cabinet meeting, which was first in Kashmir after the PDP-BJP coalition government took oath on March 1 this year, was chaired by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu, Health Minister Lal Singh, Forest Minister Sukhnandan Sharma and Law Minister Basharat Bukhari will be other members of the committee, Akhtar said.
“The committee has been asked to give its recommendations before June 1 this year,” he added.
The sub-committee was formed in view of reservations expressed by some sections of the society, he said.
Opposition parties including National Conference had criticised the government for the recruitment policy and demanded its rollback.
“Since we believe in taking everyone along, hence this decision,” he added.
The cabinet took several other decisions including sanctioning of land for power and road projects in the state.
“The cabinet ordered transfer of land to four small power projects in Udhampur, Anantnag, and Sindh areas,” Akhtar said, adding, it also approved amendment to the State Legal Services Authority Act to bring it at par with the national legislation.
“As per the national law, a judicial officer has to be appointed as the secretary to the Legal Services Authority.
The cabinet approved this amendment,” he said.
In another significant decision, the cabinet deferred the cadre review of IAS officers, pending a similar exercise for Kashmir Administrative Officers (KAS).
“This will give due chances to the local officers,” Akhtar said.
