SRINAGAR: The Cabinet which met here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti approved the proposal to allow the CA&PD department to grind 75 per cent wheat into Atta, out of the total allocation of wheat for distribution among the consumers.
Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), wheat is supplied at a highly subsidized rate of Rs 2 per Kg; however, NFSA does not provide grinding charges for wheat and when the CA&PD department supplied Wheat to the rationees, a certain section of rationees especially in urban areas were reluctant to receive wheat instead of Atta.
The State Cabinet on 11th April, 2016, took a decision to allow the CAPD Department to supply Atta instead of wheat to the consumers and for the purpose department was authorized to charge Rs 1 per Kg Atta from the rationees, on account of grinding, transportation and handling charges.
