JAMMU: Shopkeepers of Bus Stand Jammu on Thursday staged a protest against Jammu Development Authority (JDA) for demolishing shops to complete the ongoing multi-storeyed parking project.
The State Government’s move to change Jammu Bus Stand area into multi-storeyed parking has become the cause of conflict between Jammu Development Authority (JDA) and the shopkeepers. The situation became tense when JDA authorities went ahead to demolish few shops in the area which comes in the ambit of aforesaid parking project. The shopkeepers protested and laid down themselves in front of the bulldozers to express resentment against JDA.
One of the distressed shop owners said, “Today, without any warning the JDA began demolishing our shops whereas our property is still on lease which has not yet expired.”
Another protester said that we had been working in coordination with the JDA regarding the new parking project. “Everything was going well so far but today the JDA men started demolishing shops,” he said adding JDA has still not sorted out the compensation issue.
The shop owners appealed to the administration for taking them into confidence before going for such demolition drive.
