Bus skids on frozen road; narrow escape for passengers

BHADARWAH: More than 35 passengers had narrow escape when a bus they were traveling in skidded off the road but luckily did not fell into the gorge near Batote on National Highway on Thursday morning.
According to reports, front tyre of the bus was hanging on the side of the road after it skidded on the frozen road, all passengers including the driver and the conductor escaped unhurt.
According to passengers, The Manpreet Travels bus bearing registration number JK02BJ-0087 was on its way to Jammu from Kishtwar early in the morning at 4:30AM, on reaching near Batote at around 8:30 AM, skidded off the frozen road.
According to the DySP Traffic Aftab Ahmed, “a Manpreet Travels bus from Kishtwar to Jammu suddenly skidded due to the frozen snow on the road near Batote.The incident caused panic among passengers, who rushed out of the bus, as it was hanging towards deep gorge.”
“Night temperature has fallen to minus during last couple of days, which has resulted into frozen roads especially Batote – Patni-Top, Bhaderwah-Doda and Gandoh – Thathri stretches. So people should avoid early morning travel for their safety as it is life threatening to drive on frozen roads,” DySP appealed.
