Burglars set SBI ATM on fire

KISHTWAR: Some unidentified burglars during last intervening night set Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) of State Bank of India on fire after they failed to carry out the robbery of Rs. 25 lakh cash kept inside the chest of ATM. This is second attempt of burglary on the said ATM after the first one took place on 4th Feb 2014.
According to reports, some unidentified burglars barged inside the SBI ATM located in posh area of Chinar Gali in the heart of Kishtwar town merely 100 meter away from the security picket at Gudhali Chowk Kishtwar and attempted to loot the ATM by breaking its two tier security rings, but failed to decamp with cash of Rs. 25 lakh kept inside the ATM chest.
According to police sources, after failure in their attempt, the burglars put the shop in which ATM machine was installed on fire by using petrol. “The shop was though badly damaged in the fire and no cash has been stolen from the ATM machine” police informed adding that the burglars fearing of revealing their identity also damaged the CCTV camera installed inside the ATM chamber and also put the camera and its wires on fire as an attempt to destroy the CCTV footage.
Police has also recovered a petrol can containing around half liter of left out petrol used by the burglars in setting the ATM chamber on fire.
After receiving the information, SHO Kishtwar Mohammad Afzal Wani rushed to the spot and inspected the scene of crime.
Later Additional SP Kishtwar Abdul Qayoom and Dy. SP HQ Kishtwar Touseef Ahmed Rishu also rushed to the spot and collected some samples and evidences left behind by the burglars before they managed to escape from the spot after committing the crime.
On the basis of complaint lodged by the SBI Officer Mudassir Ahmed Ganie, Kishtwar Police has registered a case FIR. No. 17/2016 under section 457/380/511/436 RPC at Police Station Kishtwar.
The further inquiry of the case has been assigned to Sub Inspector Anil Kotwal.
SSP Kishtwar Sandeep Kumar Wazir is personally monitoring the investigation of the case.
Police has also written to SBI officials, seeking CCTV footage recorded by the bank so that same could be scrutinised to authenticate the identity of the culprits.
