Builder murder case: Palghar police claims breakthrough;4 held
Palghar: With the arrest of four persons including a shooter, the Palghar district police has claimed to have made a breakthrough in connection with the murder of a Nallasopara-based builder here in November this year.
Thirty-seven-year-old Rajesh Amarbahadur Singh was shot dead allegedly by a few motorbike-borne assailants near his office on November 5.
According to Sr PI Ravindra Badgujar of Nalla Sopara police station the four accused– shooter Dhiraj Surendra Upadhyaya (26), Aamir Toufiq Khan (22), who rode the bike alongwith Mahesh Ramkrishna Shetty (37) and Santosh Narayan Shetty (29) were held from Mumbai and Vasai areas.
Police had registered offences against the killers under section 302 rw 34 of the IPC and also section 3 and 25 of the Arms Act, he said.
The CCTV footage and other available clues in the film were not of much help to the police who worked on the other theories and zeroed on the attackers, police said.
Police said that preliminary investigations revealed that Dhiraj had come on a bike driven by Aamir and fired at point blank range on the victim.
The fire arms were brought from Uttar Pradesh and the weapon used in the killing was recovered from Bhiwandi, the PI told reporters last evening.
Badgujar said the conspiracy to kill the small-time builder was hatched one month back and the assailants were promised good money.
