BSF releases footage of tunnel used by terrorists in Samba

JAMMU: The Border Security Force on Thursday released a video of a 70-metre tunnel that was used by the infiltrators who were killed near the International Border in the Samba area of Jammu on Monday.
The tunnel is 75-80 metres from the IB and about 35-40 metres from the fence, as per the border force.
This is a rat hole-like tunnel and is usually used only once as it is in the open,” BSF IG DK Upadhyaya told reporters here at Frontier Headquarters on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the army authorities are still struggling to track down the exact route taken by the group of heavily armed fidayeen before storming the artillery unit in Nagrota.
Ongoing investigations have so far revealed that the outer periphery wall of the army unit was breached by the fidayeen taking advantage of the absence of sentry guard at the watch tower. Inside reports revealed that the fidayeen group may have been hiding in the forest area at the rear portion of the army camp and had done thorough recee of the area before choosing their target.
The security forces including the state police is also scanning all the relevant data and other records to ascertain whether the fidayeen were spotted in the area prior to the attack and whether  the over ground worker ferried them to the spot in his personal vehicle hours before they targeted the army unit.
According to reports, army headquarters had taken adverse note of the complacent approach of the army jawans posted on guard duty on the periphery of the unit headquarters. The senior officers have been directed to carry out regular random visits to the area to keep their on their toes to prevent repeat of similar terror strikes.
