Dr Ajay Kaul, Chairman and HOD Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, BLK Super Specialty Hospital, who was in Srinagar today to conduct an OPD in Khyber Super Specialty Hospital said, “Case of coronary heart disease and rheumatic fever is prevalent here and many time patients find it difficult to travel far of places for treatment. This worsens the situation even further and patients land up with more complex issues. BLK team will visit different parts of Jammu and Kashmir to conduct free OPDs and help patients provided best medical support in their own State.”
“Such initiatives will help those patients who return after critical heart surgeries and find it difficult to visit back regularly for consultation. Such patients will get to meet good doctors easily for advice and necessary medications”, added Kaul.
“Regular OPDs will be conducted in different parts of the State especially where coronary heart disease and rheumatic fever is prevalent”, informed Dr Kaul.
“Crude prevalence rate of coronary heart disease in urban areas of Jammu and Kashmir is 6 to 10 per cent and in rural areas is 6 to 7 per cent. In J and K, the population like any other developing community, is undergoing lifestyle changes but the unusual stress and strain for the last 15 years of the disturbed situation in the State apparently has contributed to increase the prevalence of coronary health disease”, he said.
