philipSharjah,30Nov(PTI): Phillip Hughes’ shocking death continues to resonate across the cricketing world with New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum paying tribute to the late Australian batsman today by stating that his side has been left heartbroken by the tragedy.

The Kiwis are currently playing a series against Pakistan here but McCullum said the thoughts are not about cricket right now. In the ongoing third Test between the two sides was suspended on November 27 as a mark of respect to Hughes, who passed away earlier this week.

“Our focus at the moment is not on our performances, it is all about Phil. We are heartbroken for Phil’s family, Greg, Virginia, Megan and Jason. No one should go through what you guys are going through right now,” McCullum said in a statement.

McCullum also offered support to pacer Sean Abott, whose bouncer resulted in the fatal head injury to Hughes.

“We are reaching out to Phil’s family, Michael Clarke and the Australian boys, medical staff, fans, all who have been affected by Phil’s passing. We are also reaching out to Sean Abbott.

“You are all in our thoughts, our hearts and in Phil’s case, our memories. Cricket is a sport, but the cricket community is a family. We are here for you, we are thinking of you,” McCullum said.

Hughes, had he survived, would have turned 26 today.
