BJP’s open option
After remaining in dilemma it seems BJP is in no hurry to from the government in Maharashtra and has kept all its options open. Though L. K Advani had expressed his desire to go for Shiv Sena alliance he has also emphasised that the relationship with the former allies should be maintained. He admitted that even though the BJP is a dominating force at the Centre, yet the alliance would have helped both the parties in having a strong hold at the Centre as well as at the state level. On the other hand RSS is keen that the saffron forces should unite but has left the decision to the BJP. Nationalist Congress Party headed by Sharad Pawar has been advocating external support seeing the situation. Pawar is a deal maker in search of any possible access to power. After all his diatribes against Narendra Modi’s ‘communal’ politics, now offering to support Modi who even called his party Naturally Corrupt Party shows how political opportunism has blurred the secular communal divide. Despite emerging as the single largest party with 123 including one ally it is still short of 22 for simple majority. So left with time tested option, either BJP would try to get the support from independents or mend fences with Shiv Sena. By ruling the commercial capital of the country, the BJP should be well poised to push forward economic reforms with much more confidence. Benefits of reforms during last NDA regime were reaped by UPA-I because reforms were enacted during the fag end of Vajpayee’s Government. Tough decisions on the economy should be on the cards with majority prevailing.
