JAMMU: Dismissing as spurious the BJP’s defence that it entered into post-poll alliance with PDP to defeat separatism, Prof Hari Om on Thursday asserted that BJP is playing with dangerous tools and its whole Kashmir policy is fatal not only for the nationalist people of Jammu province and Ladakh region, but also for the very unity and integrity of India.
Prof Hari Om was reacting to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s Jammu statement that “Today it is a political reality that the mainstream political parties and the people of Kashmir region come together in our fight against separatism and we have to use this coalition in that direction.”
Former senior BJP leader said that PDP is not a mainstream party. “A party that demands self-rule, vouches for equal sovereign status for Islamabad with New Delhi in this part of J&K, attacks institution of Indian Army on a daily-basis and allows full freedom to handful of secessionists to muddy Indian waters in Kashmir just can’t be termed as a mainstream political party,” said Prof Hari Om, adding that BJP stitched and re-stitched alliance with PDP knowing it full well that at least two former National Security Advisors had in unambiguous terms exposed the pro-separatist credentials of the Kashmiri party.
Cornered, clueless and ideologically dishonest BJP is only defending the indefensible, said Prof Hari Om.
BJP can’t fool the nation by terming a party mainstream whose own president on December 12, 2015 without mincing words informed the nation while speaking at Agenda Aaj Tak in Delhi that “with Vajpayee the experience was good, but forming an alliance with the present BJP was not easy for us”, that “it took us two months to decide the agenda of alliance” and that “Hurriyat party was also called and getting consent on most of the issues the government is working”.
What PDP president said was self-explanatory and it must call the BJP’s bluff and establish that BJP subverted the Jammu’s mandate, bartered the legitimate interests of its own constituency in Jammu and staked the very paramount national interest for the sake of five or six insignificant berths in the state cabinet, said Prof Hari Om, adding that BJP must not take the nation for granted and avoid exercises in self-deception.
Prof Hari Om also held BJP squarely responsible for the exodus of persecuted, harassed and threatened-with-dire consequences non-local students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) from Srinagar, and added that the Kashmir policy of BJP is undoubtedly fraught with dangerous ramifications.
“BJP’s nationalism is much more perverted than the Congress and other fake secular parties, he said, adding that the exodus of non-local students from Srinagar on April 10, 11 and 12 was the direct fall-out of the BJP’s dangerous Kashmir policy or its naked policy of appeasement. BJP will have to pay through its nose for its acts of omission and commission, he asserted. He warned that BJP, if allowed to pursue the same policy, would end the Indian presence in Kashmir and facilitate the task of those in Kashmir who have been striving to de-link J&K from India, saying Muslim-majority J&K is unfinished agenda of partition.
