BJP’s first

From four seats in 2009 Assembly elections to 47 in 90-seat Assembly, BJP will be forming the first government in Haryana, since the inception of the state in 1966. In Maharashtra the party was the first to break the 100-seat- barrier in 24 years. The victories also cement the fact that Modi’s Congress-free India too is becoming a reality. In Maharashtra, after breaking alliance from Shiv Sena, BJP’s performance has taken everybody by surprise. The party crossed century mark, a feat last achieved by Congress in 1990. Since then no national or regional party had come near the 100 mark. For Congress there is little solace  though it did somewhat better  in Maharashtra  than its Lok Sabha performance. It stands decimated in both states and faces an abyss. The BJP is inclined to go with Sena once again after breaking its 25-year-old alliance over seat sharing ahead of the Assembly polls though NCP sprang a surprise with its offer of “outside support” in the western state where the saffron party fell short of majority. Except Karnataka, Kerala and Assam, Congress is now out of power in major Indian  states. In Haryana, voters not only tossed Bhupinder Singh Hooda out, they also rejected Chautala. Despite his Jat vote bank, the aging Chautala was not match for Brand Modi and all this happened  when party without projecting a CM face. In Haryana, where the BJP has already got a majority of its own, the party’s newly-elected MLAs will meet at Chandigarh on Tuesday to elect their leader. Corruption, casteism and nepostism have been shown door with voters voting for development and good governance. Rahul Gandhi was right when he said people voted for a change. Results have shown that Modi wave has not faded away and is still continuing.
