JAMMU: Terming the BJP’s development agenda as merely an illusion, Shri Ram Sena Jammu and Kashmir State President Rajiv Mahajan said that it is BJP’s prank to fool the public and nothing else.

In a statement issued here on Friday, Mahajan said the two slaughter houses of Jammu city, Dogra Hall Jammu and Gujjar Nagar Jammu were proposed to be shifted to outside Jammu city for maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in Jammu city.

“In this regard in year 1998 a proposal was made for shifting the slaughter houses from Jammu city to outside the city. Consequent upon it in year 2008, for constructing a modern and hygienic slaughter house, a land was earmarked at Nagrota and the project was estimated at a cost of Rs 20.70 crore with Central Government share Rs 15 crore and State Government share Rs 5.70 crore. The Central Government in year 2009 granted/ released Rs 1.5 crore for the project and work got started. But to the much disappointment, the work was done up to plinth level and then stopped abruptly for reasons better known to the echelons at the helm of affairs. Some high level political influence may be the cause behind stopping the project which cannot be ruled out,” said Mahajan.

Mahajan stated that through reliable sources it has come to know that Centre is reclaiming its Rs 1.5 crore share from State Government as the slaughter house project is abandoned for the last more than five years.

Mahajan lamented that blood and refuse from slaughter houses will remain flowing down the Nallahs and river Tawi, polluting atmosphere and stinking water bodies thus forcing Jammuites to content with unhygienic potable water.

“This seems no body’s concern. The State BJP- PDP Coalition Government is least bothered about the welfare of Jammu people. The development agenda of BJP is nothing more than a prank,” Mahajan added.
