Sarbananda SonowalSilchar: Union Minister of state for Sports and Youth welfare Sarbananda Sonowal today said that BJP would form the next government in Assam on its own.

“BJP will form the next government in Assam alone. The people of the state know what the actual facts are and who can ensure development in the state,” Sonowal told PTI.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi “could not even manage his own ministers, how can he ensure the development of the state,” he added.

Assembly polls in Assam is scheduled next year.

The Centre was very interested to develop the north-east and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a personal interest in ensuring this by instructing all ministers to visit the region and submit reports to him, the minister said.

The Centre has allocated Rs 53,000 crore in the last budget for the development of the north east.

Sonowal further alleged that the Assam government was creating problems to prevent the completion the Mahasadak project in Dima Hasao district by delaying the permission for forest clearance.

The Modi government has taken the initiative to complete the Silchar-Lumding rail project with passenger trains likely to run from July and necessary inspection would be completed before that.

He said as per information he received from Railway department, the passenger train will run from next July and the necessary inspection will be done before this.

Sonowal was in Karimganj yesterday to attend a special ‘Chintan’ meeting of the party.

He said that as Karimganj was near Bangladesh border, the government was planning measures to ensure development of the bordering district.
