BJP holds cleanliness campaign under SBA

LEH: On the completion of 3 years of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the year 2014, BJP Leh organised a cleanliness campaign in the old Leh Town.
The campaign was organised under the leadership of Tsewang Gonbo, District President BJP Leh. Chief Executive Councilor, Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo, Rajendar Singh Chib President State Kissan Morcha, Captain Kasturi Lal, State General Secretary Kissan Morcha, Executive members and senior leaders of BJP Leh, Councilors, Mandal Presidents and prominent leaders of BJP Leh were also present. Residents of Skya-ngos Goksum, Stalam and Stago-philok including sweepers of NAC Leh also joined the campaign.
The participants cleaned all the narrow streets below Leh Palace of old town. The cleaning drive started from the Main Gate of Leh Palace and concluded at Balkhang, the end of the Main Market. The dignitaries addressed the concluding event at Balkhang Chowk.
Speakers mentioned about the ongoing black-topping activities being executed by LAHDC, Leh across the district. The Leh-town beautification proposal was conceived during the 3rd LAHDC, Leh under the Chairmanship of Chhering Dorjey and all the implementation actions were taken-up on war footing by the 5th LAHDC, Leh under the chairmanship of Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo, CEC and handed over to public.
Speakers appealed the gathering to segregate garbage to help in proper disposal of waste. “Leh town was awarded the cleanest city certificate under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the credit goes not only to LAHDC but the responsible citizens of Leh district” Dr. Sonam Dawa said in his concluding speech.
Tsewang Gonbo said that Leh Old Town needs a better waste management system to lure more tourists.
