JAMMU: Pointing towards several media reports of huge cash having been deposited into the party accounts of BJP at various places immediately preceding 8th November, Harsh Dev Singh, JKNPP Chairman and former Minister, has sought a probe as to whether the BJP leadership was tipped off prior to demonetization
Addressing the media here on Monday, Harsh said that suspicions were rife that top BJP leadership and the corporate friends of BJP were sounded in advance and were given sufficient time to convert their currency into gold, dollars and real estate. He said that the allegations of various political and social organizations could not be dismissed lightly as several of them had been supported by corroborating evidence.
He said that several account numbers were specifically mentioned which included BJPs bank accounts into which crores of rupees were deposited immediately before the ban on existing currency. He said that one national BJP leader had said that the demonetisation process had been initiated two months back, another top leader described it as a six month old initiative, while the Prime Minister in yesterday’s speech described the decision as ten months old. Likewise there were contradictory statements with regard to the names of dignitaries who were aware of the demonetization move.
Emphasising the necessity of crackdown upon back money in entirety, Singh said that selective action in this regard violated the national interest besides exposing the party in power. He said that cash hoards are held by all big political parties, big businessmen, bureaucrats, Hawala operators and other middlemen and none deserved any favourable disposition or concession. He said that while the fight against scourge of black money and counterfeit currency deserved the support of every nationalist, any favours to a group or party amounted to national sacrilege and a sin.
Commenting upon the raids on the jewellers, Singh called for identical raids on big fish including coalition Ministers who had accumulated huge wealth by dubious means and through transfer industry which flourished by leaps and bounds during the last two years. He further called upon the PM to fulfill his election promise by bringing back black money stashed abroad as mere demonetization in the country will not make much difference.
He said that the unaccounted economy was a composite of various factors including over-seas tax havens, holdings of gold, undervalued real estate, over-invoicing of imports and under-invoicing of exports, Hawala transactions etc. and observed that fight against corruption and black money must cover all these aspects.
Reminding further the BJP of its opposition to the Congress move of demonetization in 2014, Singh questioned the saffron party for its sudden change of heart in becoming an avowed votary of demonetization within a period of two years.
Gagan Pratap Singh General Secretary and Spokesman Young Panthers was also present in the press conference.
