JAMMU: Bharat Premier League, an initiative of Rising Athletes commenced at KC Sports Club, here on Monday.
The league, in which 16 teams of men, 10 of women and 10 of veterans will fight for the respective titles over a period of 20 days, was was inaugurated by the chief guest, Ranjeet Kalra, Member, Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council in presence of Rahul Charak (SP Rural) and DySP Vishal.
The Chief Guest interacted with the teams and complimented the organisers for providing the platform to the players especially to the Kashmiri Pandit community.
The tournament will generate a lot of goodwill and instill a feeling of friendship and team work among the participants, he added.
The winning trophies were unveiled by Rahul Charak (SP Rural) along with DySP Vishal.
In veterans match, Lalitaditya Cricket Club (Lseho) outplayed Shiva Cricket Club by 82 runs. Lseho, batting first after winning the toss, scored 202 runs for the loss of five wickets. Provin Bhat played a fine inning of 75 runs of 44 balls supported by Nitu, who made 48 runs off 23 balls. Anil Changari, Ramesh, Sandeep and Sanjay took one wicket each for Shiva Club. In reply, Shiva Cricket Club was scored only 120 runs for the loss of five wickets in stipulated overs and lost the match by 82 runs. Dileep, Sunil, Vinod and Rajesh grabbed one wicket each for Lseho. For his match winning knock, Provin Bhat was declared as Man of the Match.
In Men’s section, Navreh Cricket Club beat Rising Club by eight wickets.
Rising Club, batting first after winning the toss, scored 107 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 18 overs. Vishal Pandit was the main scorer with 42 runs off 36 balls. Kanan Mahajan took three wickets for Navreh Club.
In response, Navreh Cricket Club comfortably chased the target making 109 runs for the loss of two wickets in 12 overs and won the match. Rohan Punjabi was the top scorer with 48 runs off 27 balls. For the best balling performance, Kanan Mahajan was adjudged as Man of the Match.
Other dignitaries present were Shilpa Handoo (Mrs INDIA Universe 2023), Riya Razdan (Social Media Influencer), Arush Mahajan (VP JK Startup Association), Moti Lal Malla (Social Activist) and Fawzul Kabiir (CEO – GR8 Sports India Pvt Ltd).
