JAMMU: Even after accepting an invitation from PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti to attend her swearing-in ceremony on Monday former state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made last minute efforts to provoke her.
First he tweeted claiming he is waiting for all the members of PDP-BJP to chant ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ after the oath ceremony and later in an interview to a private news channel Omar poked fun at Mehbooba claiming BJP has not fulfilled any one of her conditions listed by her before forming the government in alliance with them.
Abdullah also said Mehbooba Mufti is taking over the charge “in a significantly weaker position than her father did.”
As the day progressed and bill boards congratulating Mehbooba Mufti surfaced here in the winter capital Omar and his party spokesman once again took to the twitter and posted comments.
“I look forward to seeing all the members of the PDP-BJP alliance say this as soon as they take their oath tomorrow,” Abdullah tweeted.
The tweet quoted the remarks by Maharashtra’s Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis that those who do not chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ have no right to live in the country.
Responding to Omar’s tweet a regular follower posted equally nasty comment saying ,”And what if they do it and ask some of those in the audience to do it as well”?
Another follower wrote in response, “Patriotic Omar can easily join the chorus”.
Firebrand BJP MLA Ravinder Raina also commented on the subject claiming, no one should hesitate in chanting a patriotic slogan “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview Omar also claimed none of Mehbooba Mufti’s conditions were fulfilled by the BJP. He said Mehbooba is the chief minister because she is the daughter of Mufti Sayeed. She is not there because she is a woman. It is an inherited position. I’m in the same position.
That’s a reality we can’t escape from,” the former chief minister told the news channel.
Quoting BJP leader Ram Madhav, Omar Abdullah said Mehbooba Mufti “sought nothing from the Prime Minister and received nothing.” Mehbooba Mufti had kept the BJP waiting for weeks after her father and former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s death on January 7
“I bear no personal animosity towards Mehbooba as I bore none toward her father,” the National Conference leader said. “It is clear that Mehbooba has faced and continues to face tremendous dissension. It’s true that majority of her party legislators were in favour of government formation with or without her… I’m curious to know what happens tomorrow,” he said.
