JAMMU: Alongside other state units, the Committee of Administrators (CoA), presently in charge of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has asked the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) to submit the names of the general body members latest by August 8.
“In a decision which could have a far-reaching implications in ensuring transparency and also curb the malpractice of proxy voting, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) has sent out an email to JKCA, an affiliated unit of the BCCI, to upload the names of all the general body members of the associations and also hand over the lists to CoA Chairman Vinod Rai by August 8,” informed sources told.
This decision was taken by the CoA to ensure that those State associations, which have less than 50 members, are not able to form a coterie and run the association with their dummy candidates.
“While states like Saurashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Andhra are run by small groups of persons and associations like JKCA and Delhi are run by proxies,” added the source. Meanwhile, as per the reports appeared in media, the CoA wants to know how the State associations are being run and to bring in some clarity on the operations of the states. This is in fact a reality check and could throw up a lot of skeletons.
“The basic purpose of sending out the mail is to ensure that nepotism is checked. There are several members who are blatantly promoting their own relatives and friends to the detriment of the association. This in turn has fuelled a lot of financial corruption as crores of rupees have been siphoned off in various scams. Hence, it is the duty of the CoA to keep track of how the units of the BCCI are functioning. Some of the state bodies are very close to the current set of officials in the BCCI,” one of the reports mentioned.
