JAMMU: Former J and K cricketer, Ranjeet Kalra on Monday urged The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) to conduct a special camp for cricketers of J&K at NCA, on similar lines as they recently did for cricketers of Bihar. Kalra, a State representative in BCCI, in a communication to the Board Joint Secretary Amitabh Choudhary, who is also the Convener of BCCI National Junior Cricket Committee of which Kalra is also a member, (representing North Zone), requested the BCCI for organising a special camp for State cricketers at the NCA, Bangaluru Dharamshala or any other suitable venue, in the wake of law and order problems in the Valley. He said the unrest in Valley has left the Kashmir based cricketers unprepared for the national cricket season that commences in October. Kalra also said, “There is no dearth of talent in J&K but unfortunately our cricketers have been suffering on many accounts lack of infrastructure and training been two of the major impediments. I have telephonically also requested Choudhary and he in turn has promised to consider our request favorably.” BCCI, acting on a request from Kalra made during the BCCI Conclave at Dharamshala held in June this year, had agreed to hold talent search camps at Srinagar in the month of September but given the sensitive condition in Kashmir that seems quite unlikely as of now.
