STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Shiv Sena (Bala Sahib Thackery) State Chief Dimpy Kohli on Tuesday made an appeal to Mehbooba Mufti led PDP- BJP Government to ban tobacco products in the State to save the future of youth of this State.
While addressing the activists of the party in the meeting organised at Indira Chowk Dimpy Kohli along with G.I Singh, Raj Singh, Rajan Gupta, Narinder Dev Chunni, Satish Sahni said that youth of country are now becoming addict of drugs, tobacco products which is not a good signal for the future of the young generation and also for the country.
Dimpy Kohli said if government is unable to ban the tobacco products for the reason of collecting revenue, it must increase tax on tobacco and other tobacco products.
He said that an increase in taxes will automatically reduce overall tobacco consumption in the State and raise revenues for the State Government.
An increase of 10 per cent in tax makes about 3 per cent of cigarette smokers and 9 per cent of Bidi smokers quit smoking. It also has a reining in effect by curtailing new entrants into the vicious circle of tobacco consumption and thus will help in saving the lives. He said many organisations are raising this demand but government is not taking it seriously because of the reason best known to it.
He said whenever police public meet is organised anywhere in the State the issue of drugs consumption by youth is always on the top but government is ignoring this issue again and again.
