JAMMU: Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Sewadar Sabha demanded a ban on the release of the controversial film Nanak Shah Fakir slated to hit the theatres on April 13.
Manjeet Singh Chairman of J&K Sabha unit, said the movie should not be released until objectionable parts had been removed.
“Guru Nanak Dev and their two followers Bhai Mardana and Bhai Bala and their sister Bebe Nanki were not an ordinary personalities like common people.
So, they should not be presented before the public as they were spiritual personalities which were selected by Guru Nanak Dev. The Sikh community never allowed any person to represent themselves on the patron of Guru Nanak Dev and their true followers,” Singh said, adding “So, we appeal to SGPC Amritsar to please stop the movie and DGPC President also put ban on the film.”
Prabjot Singh, Anmol Singh, Harpreet Singh, Balmeet Singh, Harshdeep Singh, Manjot Singh, Bipranjeet Singh, Harshmeet Singh, Arshmeet Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Amarpreet Singh, Amandeep Singh, Harleen Singh and Simranjeet Singh were also present.
Film ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ has been mired in controversies ever since it was first screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014. It was set to release in 2015, but was withdrawn from theaters following widespread protests from various Sikh bodies over the alleged human portrayal of Guru Nanak and his family members, which the SGPC says is against Sikhism.
