JAMMU: Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu Shahzad Azeem on Tuesday issued notice to editor of newspaper, Daily Asmaan in a defamation suit filed by Minister for Health & Medical Education Bali Bhagat for publishing ‘false and frivolous news against him’.
In the suit, it was submitted that the newspaper published false and defamatory news items against the Minister on 14th and 15th December, 2016.
It was further submitted that the newspaper published false news items alleging the purchase of gold weighing 2.50 kg by wife of the Minister namely Asha Bali from Ch. Shankar Shah Ishar Dass Jewellers at Jammu.
The suit submitted the aforesaid news items were highly motivated and were meant to defame the Minister who is having very good reputation among the masses and is performing his duties satisfactorily and within the purview of the provisions of the Constitution.
The petitioner prayed before the Court to pass a decree of Rs. 5 lakh as damages for defamation and injury to reputation.
