Bail denied in ‘meteorite’ selling case

JAMMU: Chief Judicial Magistrate Jamm Suneet Gupta Tuesday rejected the bail application of Venkatakrishna Modegula of Andhra Pradesh who was arrested by the Crime Branch in the much publicized cheating case dealing with selling of meteorite.
As per Crime Branch report a written complaint lodged by the complainant Raj Kumar Gupta son of Late SardariLal Gupta resident of 37-F, B/C Gandhi Nagar, Jammu was received in Crime Branch wherein the complainant had alleged that accused Venkatakrishna Modegula, D Balasubranayam Tirupati, Gowhar Hussain Rather, Afroz Ahmed Khan, Mushtaq Ahmed, Sohail Ahmed Khan, Imtiaz Ahmed Khan, Bilqees Mir, Mohammad Maqbool Dar, Irfan Ul Hamid, Sheikh Irshad, Mohammad Ishtiaq Lone, Syed Gulzar Ahmed, Abdul Rashid Malik. ManojKalsi, S. Balbir Singh, Parvez Ahmed Bakarwal, Tahir Bakerwal, B Ramakrishna, Raju Kumar Singh, Ajay Saini and Ashok Tak approached him from time to time and allured him that they are having a precious article called Rice Puller (RP) which is very valuable and worth crores of rupees and motivated him that the article will benefit him by bringing good fortune and money and can be sold at a very higher rate.
The complainant had paid lakhs of rupees to the accused persons through bank transactions and cash. However, the accused after taking the money vanished.
However, all the accused persons, in furtherance of a criminal conspiracy took a huge sum of money from the complainant and later cheated him and duped him of his hard earned money amounting to Rs 7.99 crore primarily in order to cause wrongful gains to themselves and wrongful loss to the complainant.
During the course of investigation statement of complainant u/s 161 Cr.PC was recorded. On the basis of statement of complainant section 467/468/471/RPC have been added in the case. Some suspects were interrogated.
CJM Jammu Suneet Gupta after hearing Adv HC Jalmeria and Adv Manoj Gorkela for the accused person whereas Senior PO MA Almansoor with Inspector Sajjad Pervaz for the Crime Branch observed that there is prima-facie sufficient evidence to connect the accused with the commission of offence and the nature and gravity of the accusation against him are so serious which involves whole society at large and the accused is resident of Hyderabad and if he be allowed to release on bail in eventuality, it would be quite exodous for the investigating agency to catch him for the purpose of completion of the investigation and for presentation of chargesheet.
