JAMMU: Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Education Trust felicitated Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari and Minister of State for Education, Priya Sethi for the implementation of Punjabi language in the schools, at a function held here. MLC Charanjeet Singh Khalsa, Sant Tejwant Singh of Dera Sant Pura Danna Muzaffrabad, Director School Education and Joint Director School Education were also present.
It has been the demand of the Sikh Community to re-induct teaching of Punjabi language in the schools as was already in vogue 35 years ago. The community expressed gratitude to the State Government and especially to the Minister for Education for his sincere efforts for fulfilling their long pending demand and declaring Punjabi as compulsory language in the schools.
The community members demanded appropriate teaching staff in all schools in areas dominated by Punjabi speaking population. They also demanded that the Sikh teachers working in different areas of Kashmir Valley be posted at safe zones to prevent security threats to their lives.
