Ayush scheme: Division Bench directs Chief Secretary to file reply within two weeks

JAMMU: While hearing the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Educational Environmental Social Sports and Cultural Society regarding implementation of Ayush Systems of Medicine to strengthen the public health system at all level so as to provide the facility to the people particularly rural masses to have choice of treatment, a Division Bench of state High Court comprising Chief Justice M.M Kumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan directed Chief Secretary and others to file reply within two weeks.
In the PIL submitted that Ayush doctors are forced to prescribe allopathic medicines which is against the norms. It has been submitted that the SHRC has also taken cognisance of the matter in a complaint and directed the State Government to prohibit Ayush doctors to prescribe allopathic medicines. It has also submitted that Principal Accountant General (Audit) J and K Govt Vide NO SS/IT/2013-14/AM-22 dated 25th February, 2014 observed that there was short fall of 90 per cent in the release of funds by NRHM and the said ISM dept has been functioning as employment generation unit rather to provide health facilities to the population by way of providing medicine/ drugs which the dept has failed to provide.
