STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: National Conference Provincial Committee Jammu on Thursday condemned the attack on the Chairman, Municipal Committee Doda Ved Prakash Gupta, allegedly by the BJP workers, describing it as an anarchical act, which has no place in civilized and democratic set up.
In a statement, the Committee sought immediate probe into the incident and arrest of the hooligans involved in the shameful act, stating this speaks volumes about the frustration in the BJP rank and file on the face of imminent defeat in the ongoing elections to the District Development Councils. Instead of seeing writing on the wall, the BJP is adopting undemocratic means to vitiate the atmosphere. It is hoped that the sagacious voters will not oblige them by falling in their trap and maintain peace and tranquility. The BJP is advised to respect the ballot over fist fighting and desist from its divisive and violent politics. This might have helped them in the past but times have changed now and the people are wise enough to see through their game plan, the statement added.
The NC Provincial Committee expressed solidarity with the Chairman, who is also a senior party functionary, maintaining that such acts can’t deter the people, who believe in democratic polity. In fact, such acts further strengthen the resolve of the NC cadre in meeting the challenges posed by elements inimical to democracy, it added.
The statement urged the State Election Commission and the law enforcing agencies to take immediate cognizance of the incident and take action against the guilty in order to instill a sense of confidence among the voters to exercise their franchise in a free and fearless atmosphere. It also cautioned the BJP against such machinations, which have potential to jeopardize the democratic process.
