ATM cheat arrested in Rajouri, withdrawn amount recovered

RAJOURI: Police on Monday recovered an amount withdrawn fraudulently by an accused from ATM of complainant.
In an official statement, police said that on April 26, 2022, a written complaint was lodged at Police Station Kalakote by Surinder Singh son of Brij Lal resident of village Behragoa Kalakote that some unknown person has swapped his ATM card fraudulently and withdrawn rupees 1,95,500 (one lakh ninety five thousand and five hundred rupees) from his ATM card and cheated him when he went gone to Kalakote market to withdraw money.
On the receipt of this complaint, a case FIR No 31/2022 U/S 420 IPC was registered at PS Kalakote.
Police added that sensing the gravity of crime and large amount of money involved, on the directions of SSP Rajouri a special police team was constituted by Additional SP Nowshera Amit Verma to crack the case.
Police team headed by SHO Kalakote Deepak Pathania and assisted by PSI Anis Choudhary, ASI Bashir Hussain under the supervision of SDPO Nowshera Tousif Reshu worked tirelessly for one and half months and during the course of investigation, several suspects were rounded up and on the basis of generation of human as well as technical intelligence.
Later, one person namely Intekhab Husssain, son of Fazal Husain, resident of village Dodasan Bala, Thanamandi was zeroed in. He was put to sustained questioning during which he confessed his crime and on the basis of his disclosure, rupees one lakh has been recovered while more recovery is likely to be affected.
Police added that on the basis of initial investigation, it has come to fore that accused used to act very smartly and had withdrawn money from ATMs of different banks from Kalakote, Rajouri, Sunderbani, Jammu and Bhaatadhurian Poonch in a span of around one month only to dodge police.
People of the area have appreciated the professionalism of Kalakote police in tracing and apprehension of accused which, otherwise, was a total blind case as victim had no idea / clue about the cheater/ accused.
SSP Rajouri Mohd. Aslam appealed people not to give their ATM Cards, ATM Numbers, OTPs to any stranger so that nobody falls prey into the hands of these type of cheaters who are looking for any suitable opportunity to dupe innocent people with their hard-earned money.
