Ashraf calls for action against illegal structures

SRINAGAR: Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development and PDD, Ashraf Mir on Sunday asked the Cantonment Board to take immediate steps for improving drainage system in Indra Nagar area. He also asked the Board authorities to initiate action against illegal hotels in the area.
“The Cantonment Board should pool its resources to put in place an efficient sewerage system in the area at the earliest so that the residential areas are safeguarded from frequent water-logging,” the minister asked the concerned authorities during his extensive tour of Sonwar Constituency for on-the-spot review of the progress of developmental activities.
The minister asked the concerned Tehsildar to identify and frame the list of illegal structures and hotels operating without sewerage treatment plants in the area so that appropriate action against them is initiated. He said these illegal structures are choking the area resulting in frequent water-logging.
The minister said that possibilities would be explored for establishment of sewerage treatment plant in the area and asked the authorities to identify land for the purpose. He further called for immediately lifting of all dumped waste material from along the roadside. He directed PDD authorities to replace all wooden poles with modern poles in shortest possible time.
On the way scores of people apprised the minister about their problems which mainly pertain to poor drainage system, delay in flood relief distribution etc.
Responding to the demands, the minister said that the government has devised a multi-pronged strategy to boost socioeconomic development in the state adding that all out efforts would be made for achieving this objective.
He sought people’s cooperation in the implementation and monitoring of development and welfare works in their respective areas to ensure better results of schemes.
