This edition of the Commonwealth Chess Championship saw participation from five countries: India, Mauritius, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Zambia. A total of 282 players competed across 18 different categories, making it a highly competitive and prestigious event.
Arushi’s accomplishment is especially significant as she became the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to win a medal in the Junior (U-20) category in any Commonwealth or international chess championship, including Asian or World competitions. Earlier this year, in January 2024, Arushi also won a bronze medal at the All India Inter-University Chess Championship, held in Gujarat.
