Dear Editor,
As the army is already being made to take on all tasks, including natural calamities, man-made calamities, aid to civil authorities when the government machinery fails, laying of red carpets for yoga sessions, constructing pontoon bridges for religious fetes, Kumbh Mela, national sports and cultural events besides performing its basic and paramount duty to safeguard the frontiers. Evolving a policy to make use of the army for all civilian purposes will give a legitimate license to the government to further misuse the army with impunity. This is one of the reasons why the youth is not joining the army.
