Why appreciate private, curse government hospitals?
Er. Jitender Kohli
The private hospitals are successfully functioning in providing excellent care to the patients among whom Max Super Specialty Hospital Mohali may be taken as an exemplary unit. Its working and discipline is experienced by me from 27th Oct to 3rd November 2014 while getting surgery for my wife’s left leg knee-joint replacement by Dr. Manuj Wadhwa and his team. The pre and post patient care was exemplary and beyond expectations.
Before this treatment I had contacted nearly all the hospitals in Jammu, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, a few at Delhi and finally stuck with Max Mohali with satisfactory counseling of Dr. Amit (09914046677) who ensured proper contacts with the concerned doctors, department, tests and unblemished pre- post surgery care of the patient.
Similar ensures were extended by other healthcare centers minus government hospitals but lacked their convincing approach. What Amit ensured me found it practically the same on 27th when we went for the pre-surgery tests etc where the proper care to the patient was provided with no extra charges. After tests Dr. Manuj Wadhwa went through the test results, examined the patient and approved surgery for the next day. His team briefed the quality of knee-joint to be planted and went through all the patient medical history and care for preparation before going in for the surgery.
On 28th Oct surgery was performed by Dr. Manuj Wadhwa who personally called the attendants and briefed the patient post surgery condition. I was permitted to accompany the patient from the exit point of OT to SICU-1. The patient was smiling and telling me her experience in the OT during the surgery where the entire team including Dr. Manuj Wadhwa was so cordial with the patient and were lightly taking this surgery. From 28th Oct to 3rd Nov the patient was round the clock cared to the best of possible including medicine, food, physical care and assistance which we can hardly manage at our homes.
This surgery requires physiotherapy which we needed at Jammu was also managed by the Max Mohali who have their contacts here with Dr. Rohit Bhatia (09419111099) who is HoD in ASCCOM (Batra Hospital Sidhra) and his clinic at Trikuta Nagar near Trikuta enclaves on the left bank of Tawi Canal, Jammu. We reached Jammu late evening on 3rd Nov and Dr. Rohit Bhatia took over the treatment on 4th Nov morning. His competence and behavior is so boosting for the patient that she has started walking with stick after just 26 days walk with the walker.
The Max Mohali team of doctors including Dr. Amit and Dr. Kapil every month visit Jammu to examine the condition of their treated patient and to prescribe what is needed or not. The latest visit was on 15th Nov when they had communicated us to get the patient post surgery examined and is to again visit on 13th Dec for the same reason.
The net work of Max Mohali is so impressive and effective that the patient recovers very fast than the normal period it may require. At Jammu Dr. Rohit Bhatia, Consultant Physiotherapist is successfully providing resultant treatment to the patient.
Now the question is why one appreciates this hospital and its team and curses the government hospitals? Better to take this State Government hospitals to talk about. The State Congress Governments, independent or with coalition with NC or PDP have practically failed to ensure pre- post treatment to the ailing people. The political game is exclusively responsible as they have made a habit of laying foundation stones or cutting ribbons for such super hospitals, government colleges’ hospitals, PHC which lack requisite facilities. The immaturity of the incharge minister is exposed as under his nose machinery of crores is purchased but none trained technician is available to operate them. Expensive ambulances are purchased to let them turn to junk without driver to run. The wheels, batteries are stolen and interior becomes rusty. The operating machine in hospitals mostly gets mechanical faults and remains nonfunctional for months together. The patients are forced to go in for the private Labs to get their requisite tests. The government fails to provide requisite qualified doctors and lets them enjoy their private practice or lets them move on educational leave for years together.
This political immaturity, incompetence adds dust by its faulty promotion and transfer policy. It further creates havoc where the blue eyed staff is let to enjoy as they wish to. This results in indiscipline, lack of dedication to job, non-seriousness to patient care and encourages corrupt practices. Many ventilators, computers and ACs are found missing from the hospitals, out of date medicines are detected and at critical time of patients staff including doctors are found missing.
This State had Chief Minister at the helm of this department which failed on every sphere as there are also series of Nursing Homes working in this State which still have not attained the proper sanctions. None is to check this nuisance. The private hospitals claiming for the super facilities is a good effort but still they lack experienced staff to provide post surgery care in Jammu.
Normally it is said that hospitals like Max Mohali are providing care in lieu of handsome fees. Okay let’s agree for it but can we deny that the government is also running their hospitals with the public taxes. Those hospitals are arranging the dedicated staff on lesser salary than the governmental staff who lack dedication but handsomely salaried. In fact the politicians have destroyed the fundamental norm of medical sector which rests on dedication, devotion and discipline.
The society has to make the government adopt the changed working culture if they want to give real care to patients like being extended in Max Super Specialty Hospital Mohali.
