JAMMU: The American Oncology Institute (AOI) at ASCOMS Jammu has achieved yet another remarkable milestone by successfully conducting a complex and rare uro-oncological surgery. This accomplishment once again underscores AOI’s exceptional expertise and proficiency in the field of oncology. The surgery, led by Dr. Avinash Rajra and Dr. Sujeet Bhat, along with the surgical oncology team at AOI Jammu, demonstrated their proficiency in tackling complex medical procedures. The anesthesia team, under the leadership of Dr. Atul Sharma and Dr. Khurram Malik, also played a crucial role in ensuring the patient’s comfort and safety throughout the procedure. The patient initially received chemotherapy at another hospital after being diagnosed with urothelial carcinoma of the urinary bladder. This form of cancer originates from urothelial cells that line the urethra, bladder, ureters, renal pelvis, and other related organs. The patient was referred to AOI Jammu for further management due to the invasive nature of the disease.After chemotherapy by Dr. Satyankar Gupta, the surgical oncology team at AOI Jammu successfully performed a complex surgery involving the complete removal of the urinary bladder and prostate. The surgical approach incorporated modern techniques for tumor resection and reconstruction, leading to a successful patient recovery.
