Anti-flood measures: Control room to be functional from July 1

KATHUA: District Development Commissioner, Kathua Ramesh Kumar on Tuesday convened a meeting to discuss the District Disaster Management Plan and the preventive flood control measures to be taken in view of ensuing monsoon season. In the meeting, DDC held discussion regarding the preventive measures to be taken to combat flash floods and asked for identification of vulnerable places so that advance action is taken by the concerned departments, before onset of rainy season.
DDC was apprised that a well equipped 24×7 Control Room shall start from 1st July at District Headquarters for close monitoring and ensuring prompt response in case of any emergency .
DDC directed the Flood Control Department to ensure strict monitoring of the water level in rivers and Nallahs and communicate timely flash flood message to the main control room.
He instructed the health department to keep medical teams ready with adequate stock of medicines and anti snake vaccines in case of exigency.
He further directed the Executive Officers Municipal Council to maintain hygiene and sanitation while PHE Departments was directed to ensure adequate use of bleaching power/chlorine tablets in drinking water, to avoid flood related epidemics.
DDC also directed Assistant Director CAPD, to stock adequate ration in stores to meet requirements in case of any emergency. The provision of buffer stock at hilly and disaster prone areas should also be ensured in time , DDC directed.
Make shift accommodation for evacuees in case of emergency were identified at Higher Secondary Schools , Panchyatas Ghars ,Police Training School Kathua and GDC Kathua of the district and it was decided to utilise services of police, army and volunteers from Civil Defence in case of any exigency.
