ANTF seizes huge quantity of narcotics, arrests two hardcore drug dealers

JAMMU: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drug trafficking and drug abuse from gross root level under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) on Monday arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 830.9 kilograms of the poppy straw from their possession in Jammu’s winter capital city.
Acting on the intelligence input, the ANTF Jammu team, a specialized unit to check rising menace of drugs, achieved another success after it foiled a bid to smuggle a commercial quantity of poppy straw worth lakhs of rupees when they seized a truck.
“ANTF Jammu has seized a truck bearing registration number JK18A-0425 from Narwal and recovered 830.900 kilogram of poppy straw. In this regards case FIR No 02 under Section 8/15/29 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station ANTF Jammu,” ANTF J&K SSP Vinay Sharma said.
“Two inter-state drug paddlers namely Nazil Qadir, son of Ghulam Qadir Bhat, resident of Rajpura Pulwama and Jaswinder Singh, son of Manohar Singh, resident of Phillaur Jalandhar have been arrested in the case.” he said adding that the ANTF team has zeroed in the main drug receiver who has been identified as Harvinder Singh Basi, son of Bhag Singh Basi and Digvijay Singh Basi, son of Harvinder Singh Basi, residents of Garaha Phillaur Jalandhar who was wanted in multiple cases of NDPS in J&K.
A team of ANTF was constituted which was led by Inspector Sanjeet Sharma under guidance of Shamsher Singh DySP ANTF Jammu under overall supervision of Vinay Sharma, SSP ANTF J&K.
With this recovery followed by immediate arrest of main receivers of drugs ANTF Jammu has been able to break the nexus of Narcotics and Psychotropic drugs suppliers and receivers from Kashmir valley to Punjab, SSP ANTF J&K said and appealed the general public particularly the youth to stay away from drugs and to share any kind of information regarding drug related activities with ANTF so that strict legal actions are taken against such drug dealers.
The identity of the informant as well as whistle-blower shall be kept confidential, he said adding that persons found in drug peddling will be dealt strictly as per law. The community participation in fight against drug abuse can serve the purpose of complete eradication of the menace of drugs from our society, SSP Vinay said.
