Ansari calls for PPP mode to promote sports

SRINAGAR: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Information Technology and Technical Education, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari on Sunday stressed the need for active involvement of the private public participation (PPP) to revive sports and athletic activities in the State.
The minister was addressing a large gathering after inaugurating a private bike station at Jawahar Nagar. The showroom is first of its kind in Kashmir were easy-to-handle folded bikes will be available for bikers and cyclists.
The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Industries and Commerce and PDD, Mohammad Ashraf Mir and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion besides a large number of athletes and cyclists.
The minister said that the government intends to promote cycling in a big way for which scores of clubs have been established in the private sector. He called upon the youth to take cycling as a fashion to that extent so as to reduce transport congestion in cities and towns. He said cycling is a best athletic activity which is environment-friendly and good for development of physical health.
Ansari said that revival of sports and athletic activities is top most priority of the present government led by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. He said during current year’s sports calendar of Youth Services and Sports department, 15 new sports and athletic activities have been introduced which are going on across the state with enthusiastic participation of the youth.
The minister said that the mountaineering is another athletic activity which has great scope for exploration in the State.
