musharaffRawalpindi: Pakistan, Friday, executed another convict involved in the assassination attempt on former president Pervez Musharraf in 2003.

The convict, Khalid, who had planned the attempt on Musharraf’s life, was executed in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, Geo News reported.

The December 2003 attack involved a powerful explosion targeting the former president’s motorcade as it was passing over a bridge in Rawalpindi.

The motorcade narrowly escaped the explosion and no one was injured.

According to an ARY News report, Khalid was the seventh to be executed out of the nine terrorists found guilty of trying to assassinate Musharraf.

Prior to hanging, the jail authorities arranged a meeting of Khalid with his family members.

Khalid’s was handed over to the heirs after the execution.

On Dec 17, Pakistan ended its moratorium on death penalty in terror-related cases, following a terrorist attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar Dec 16, in which Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants massacred 150 people, including 140 school children.

With this latest execution, the number of convicts who have been executed in Pakistan after the moratorium on death penalty was withdrawn stands at 10.
