Another desecration
Two temples desecrated in two days in Jammu and the culprits in both the incidents are from two different religions. In the first incidence the miscreant is a Muslim and a psychiatry patient and in the other a drunken Sikh and both the incidents led to Bandh call in Jammu. And politically there is not much of concern except the ritualistic condemnations. Jammu has not seen such acts of desecration of temples in near past and with the frequency the events unfolded from one corner to another is baffling and political parties it looks are hardly concerned over the development. It appears Jammu is getting into the vortex of communal frenzy and these incidents cannot be taken lightly by just issuing condemnations, protests and Bandhs but could be prelude to something which is unsavoury. The works of mentally deranged and drunken persons are just cover up. People and administration have to be cautious of these nefarious designs to flare up communal tension. Knowingly or unknowingly the turn of events point towards such notoriety. Inflaming communal hatred is the easiest way to trigger unrest. The Thursday incident comes after the desecration of a temple in Roopnagar area of Jammu city by mentally challenged Muslim man triggering violence in the area as protesters torched vehicles and resorted to stone pelting forcing police to Lathicharge the mob. The intriguing question is how a mentally deranged Muslim and a drunken Sikh could only chose Shiv Temples out of so many in the City of Temples. The purpose has been served for the elements who have been bent upon to create unrest in Jammu province ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra. Howsoever the second incident in Nanak Nagar was contained at the earliest with no damages caused because of the resilience of the people residing in the vicinity especially Sikhs and Hindus who joined hands for maintaining peace and tranquility in the area. The way incidents are unfolding one cannot rule out such incidents in future. What is needed is caution on the part of people irrespective of their caste, creed and religion to thwart such nefarious designs by elements inimical to peace.
