JAMMU: The annual Urs of Daata Buzurg Peer Ji was celebrated with great festivity at Gandhi Nagar Peer Baba, Jammu. Thousands of devotees within and outside the State took part in this Bhandara.
The annual Bhandara of Kukhran Biradari has become a symbol of secularism as people from all religions like Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Christian took part with religious fervour.
Daata Buzurg Peer Ji was from Behran Mayani, District Shahpur, Pakistan and before partition of India this annual feature was organised there. But after the partition of India-Pakistan, this tradition is followed here at his place at Gandhi Nagar.
According to Ram Anand, who is Gaddhi-Nashin at Peer Baba Gandhi Nagar, Daata Buzurg Peer Ji is a living example of secularism and people have great faith in Babaji. Every year in the month of April the annual Bhandara is organised and since 1999 it is a regular feature.
Before this Bhandara, on 21st April, an annual Bhandara was organised by Kukhran Biradari at Panj Peer, Manda near Hari Palace, Jammu as a mark of gratitude, he added. He also said that the Bhandara is organised on first Thursday after Poornima and on the very next Sunday the annual Bhandara is organised at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The devotees offered Chhader at Peer Baba and prayed for peace and brotherhood in the State.
The Bhandara was opened after Kanjak Poojan. Jangams were also present at the occasion who sang devotional songs.
