YV Sharma says Omar Abdullah “shaming” ECI unfortunate

STATE TIMES NEWS

JAMMU: Spokesperson, BJP Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory YV Sharma on Saturday expressed shock at the recent statement of former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, wherein he said that the “Election Commission of India should feel ashamed of not holding elections in J&K which led the Supreme Court of India to issue directions to it for holding elections till September 30,2024” while passing a judgement on the abrogation of Article 370.
YV Sharma said that it doesn’t behove the former Chief Minister to pass such remarks about the constitutional body like the Election Commission of India, which has the reputation of managing and organising elections in the largest democracy of the world in a very fair and fearless manner.
YV Sharma said that it is for Omar Abdullah to introspect and ponder over as to how J&K reached this point in history. He will realize that it is not because of the present government at the Centre or that of the UT of J&K but because of the intransigent and unrealistic attitude followed by the political leadership of erstwhile State since the division of the subcontinent. Their attitude of imposing their superiority, doublespeak – rather triple speak; one in Kashmir, the other in Jammu and the third in Delhi, inciting the people for unattainable mirage of freedom and recently praying for “Chinese intervention for resolving the Kashmir problem” and a constant endeavour to pit one people against other in the name of religion and language that resulted in constant bickering between the erstwhile State and central governments that caused ever increasing chasm and distrust between the two impacting the lives of the gullible people of J&K negatively. It also increased distrust between the people of the two regions of the then state, the people of Ladakh and the people within the Kashmir Valley that resulted in exodus of 500,000 Kashmiri Hindus, he added.
Sharma said that Omar Abdullah had been in the Union Government and behaved very responsibly during his tenure in the Union Cabinet. He must remember that vested interests in the erstwhile state of J&K precipitated the problem manifold, and the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A were the results of the misdoings of the powers ruling in the state for the last so many years. Being citizens of the State/UT, nobody has any business to espouse the cause of Pakistan, China, or any other foreign power that creates an adverse atmosphere for the country whose citizens all of us are, he said, adding that Pakistan has been acknowledged as an established nursery of extremism and terrorism throughout the world, and its misadventures of sending terrorists, arms, and drugs to destabilize the UT must be condemned by one and all. There will be no exaggeration in saying that speaking one word in favor of Pakistan or espousing the cause of talks with them will jeopardize the future of this part of the country. Whatever has happened has to be corrected by everybody unitedly, and the present government at the center is doing everything in this direction, he said.
Sharma said that the ground situation in UT has been transformed a lot; people have benefited from the developmental efforts after the abrogation of Article 370. He assured Omar Abdullah that elections will be held, statehood would be revived, and everything will be done for the welfare, benefit, safety, and security of the territory and the people of this paradise on earth.
“Let’s all work unitedly for J&K UT and for the country to achieve the aim of welfare for one and all, which is the goal and motto of the Government headed by Narendra Modi”, Y. V Sharma said.
