Youth made aware of harmful effects of tobacco

MENDHAR: Indian Army conducted a lecture on ‘Harmful Effects of Tobacco’ at village Tarkundi on Monday. The aim of the event was to impart awareness about harmful effects of tobacco on individual’s health and society. During the lecture the locals, specially the youth were sensitized about the adverse effects of the consumption of tobacco, various diseases that are caused by tobacco consumption, their symptoms and treatment.
The lecture was delivered by an army medical officer. He brought out that tobacco is a leading cause of respiratory aliments in the region resulting in poor eyesight, weakening of sense of taste and smell that may further lead to cancer of mouth, throat, lungs etc. It also badly effects the cardiovascular system, nervous system, reproductive system and digestive system. Audiences were also informed about the adverse effects of smokeless tobacco products like chewing, dip, snuff etc.
The locals applauded the efforts of the army in organising such activities which creates awareness on health related aspects and promotes a healthy lifestyle generates awareness amongst the civil population, especially the youth.
