XXIII State Football Championship; Young Stars, DFA Samba win on opening day

JAMMU: Young Stars Jammu and District Football Association (DFA) Samba among seven teams won their respective matches in the XXIII State Championship got underway at GGM Science College and Mini Stadium, Parade grounds, here on Monday under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA).
While Young Stars Jammu defeated DFA Udhampur 3-2, DFA Samba registered a 2-0 win against DFA Kulgam. In another match, DFA Kathua trounced Young Hero Jammu by a solitary goal and Engineers XI blanked DFA Doda 9-0.
Mussa Club also won their scheduled game outplaying DFA Kishtwar while Jammu United beat DFA Poonch 1-0.
Earlier, the competition was declared open by Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Kiran Wattal, who was Chief Guest in the inaugural function, held at GGM Science College Ground, here this afternoon. He was accompanied by the office bearers of the JKFA.
