JAMMU: Worsening law and order situation in Kashmir may now force the parents of outstation NIT students rethink before sending their wards to the Srinagar campus in the near future.
The outstation NIT students had earlier vacated their hostel premises and shifted the battleground to Jantar Mantar on Tuesday.
Though the Union Home Minister and HRD Minister, after meeting delegation of NIT students, had assured them fool proof security and better environment on the campus, the main demand of shifting NIT was rejected by them. Even after attending meeting, the NIT students have little hopes of witnessing changes on the ground zero and returning to the campus in the near future.
According to messages posted by the NIT students on social networking sites, the student groups want to continue their struggle for better infrastructure support and bringing in faculty from outside the State to restore confidence among the outstation students.
The students are also sticking to their another demand of withdrawing FIRs lodged against the students and taking strict action against the policemen who were at the forefront of ordering and beating NIT students during brutal lathicharge.
Meanwhile, in the wake of volatile situation in the Valley where six civilians including young students and budding cricketer have lost their lives in the cycle of violence and firing by security forces in the Handwara and Kupwara districts, the parents may ask their children to delay their return to ensure their safety.
To show their solidarity with the grieved families, separatist leaders have been extending their shut down calls in Srinagar for past three days.
All the educational institutions have been witnessing shut down and examinations of Kashmir University and other institutions have been postponed in the wake of street protests. Internet services also remain partially affected in parts of Kashmir valley to check the rumour mongering and prevent assembly of protesters on the streets of Kashmir.
