JAMMU: Celebrating World Environment Day with noble cause of safeguarding the nature, the Excise Department on Monday planted saplings of Neem, Jia Pota, Bahunia, Palm and Gulmohar at Excise and Taxation Training Institute in Nagrota.
The plantation drive was organised in collaboration with NGO Van Sampada and Wine Traders Association and Bar and Restaurant Association with an objective of giving back to the Mother Nature, from where we take all the essential things required for surviving on this Earth.
Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Ghanshyam Singh, Deputy Excise Commissioner (Distilleries) Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Deputy Excise Commissioner (Accounts), Shagun Sharma, Principal, Excise and Taxation Training Institute, Jammu Shahnaz Akhter, President Wine Traders Association Charanjeet Singh and Davinder Sharma from NGO Van Sampada were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Ghanshyam Singh said tree plantation is an integral part of conserving environment and everyone should plant atleast one tree as his responsibility towards protecting the nature.
He further informed that the Excise and Taxation Department holds regular awareness programmes to educate the youth about harmful effects of drug addiction. The department will hold competitions, symposiums, painting contests and other programmes under Corporate Social Responsibility for keeping the youth away from social evils like smoking, chewing tobacco and drugs.
