RAJOURI: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) organised a workshop on Joint Liability Groups at Rajouri on Friday. The workshop was chaired by Ranbir Singh, General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), J and K Regional Office, Jammu.
Des Raj, District Development Manager, NABARD, Rajouri/Poonch informed that the objective of the workshop was to train the business correspondents of J&K Grameen Bank, Rajouri to form Joint Liability Groups in the district. These Business Correspondents of J&K Grameen Bank are engaged in banking activities in rural areas.
Ranbir Singh, General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) while addressing the participants informed that Joint Liability Groups aims at to augment the flow of credit to farmers, especially small, marginal, tenant farmers, oral lessees, share cropers/individuals taking up farm activities. He also informed that Joint Liability Groups also minimise the risks in the loan portfolio for the banks through group approach, peer education and credit discipline.
The Business Correspondents were made familiar with the scheme guidelines and were motivated to propagate the scheme in the rural areas and form Joint Liability Groups of the farmers those who are not eligible for KCC for want of land in their name. The General Manager advised that in district Rajouri there is a huge scope of formation of Joint Liability Groups. V.K Sharma, Senior Manager, J&K Grameen Bank, Head Office also motivated the business correspondents to form Joint Liability Groups and he highlighted the systems and procedures for credit linking of Jiont liability Groups with the banks.
The scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rajouri were also invited to participate in the workshop and highlight the various scheme of Krishi Vigyan Kendra for the benefits of the farmers particularly for the small and marginal farmers.
Vikas Tandon, the Programme Coordinator, Krishi Vigyan Kendra highlighted the role of KVK for the uplift of the farmers.
The workshop ended with a vote of thanks by R.S Sumbria, Area Manager, J&K Grameen Bank, Rajouri/Poonch.
