JAMMU: A woman inter-state narcotics smuggler was among four peddlers arrested in Samba district, police said.
Heroin worth Rs 7.5 lakh was also seized from them.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Rajveer Kaur, an inter-state heroin smuggler, from a slum in Samba, they said. Kaur was the main smuggler involved in supplying heroin from Punjab to Kathua, Samba, Jammu and adjoining areas, Senior Superintendent of Police Benam Tosh said.
Hailing from Hoshiarpur in Punjab, Kaur smuggled heroin from her native in passenger vehicles to evade frisking. She then supplied the contraband to local suppliers in the Jammu division, he said.
Tosh said the arrested inter-state smugglers also used to supply opium straw from south Kashmir to Jammu and Punjab.
SSP Samba further said that within a short period of fortnight, Samba Police have arrested four top inter-state narcotic smugglers and suppliers who used to supply heroin from Punjab to Jammu division and opium straw from South Kashmir to Jammu province and Punjab. SSP Samba has appealed the general public of Samba district, teachers, parents, guardians and elders of society to assist police in operation against smugglers and suppliers of narcotic substances / drugs so that deadly malaise of narcotics and drugs abuse may be eradicated and youth may be motivated to stay away from addiction of substances injurious to health.
The female inter-state woman heroin smuggler RajveerKaur was arrested by a special naka team comprising of Additional SP Samba SurinderChoudhary, SDPO Vijaypur Priyanka Kumari, SHO P/S Vijaypur TribhawanKhajuria and PSI DeepikaJalotra.
A case FIR No.17/2023 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS has been registered at Police Station Vijaypur and further investigation started to unearth the whole illegal network of smugglers and suppliers of narcotic substances in Samba and adjoining districts.
